Thimphu Tshechu: Celebrate the Color, Faith, and Spirit of Bhutan

The Thimphu Tshechu, a three-day religious festival, is held in the courtyard of Tashichho Dzong, Thimphu, commencing on the 10th day of the 8th lunar month. This government holiday brings together locals dressed in their finest attire for an immersive cultural and spiritual experience. District monks perform 25 sacred mask dances (Chham), recreating Buddhist mythology with vibrant silk costumes and intricate masks.

These dances are believed to invoke deities, blessing the congregation and offering an opportunity for Buddhist followers to cleanse negative karma and reflect on their lives. The festival also features traditional folk songs, fostering a sense of community and shared tradition.
