Druk Path Trek
Druk Path Trek is one of the finest short treks in Bhutan. At roughly 55 kilometers in length, the trek takes 5 days to complete. It Lead through an ancient trading route, over high mountain passes, that begins at Dopshari (Ta Dzong), Paro and ends at Thimphu or vice versa. This hiking expedition in Bhutan offers an unparalleled experience, showcasing mountain monasteries, breathtaking alpine landscapes, crystal-clear lakes, and spectacular views of towering Himalayan peaks, making it a favorite among trekkers.
The ideal times for this trek are from March to May (for blooming rhododendrons) or late September to November (for the clearest Himalayan views). The trek commences above Ta Dzong (2500m), with a demanding 1000m ascent to the first campsite near Jela Dzong (3500m). Day two leads to Jangchulakha, where you camp at 3750m. The third day offers stunning views of Jomolhari and Jichu Drakye, culminating at Jimilang Tsho (3870m). Continuing past Janye Tsho, the route ends at a campsite above Simkotra Tsho (4100m), the trek's highest point. The final day involves a descent including visits to Phajoding Monastery and Thujidrag Goempa and to thimphu valley (2300m).

Itineraries
Day 1
Arrival in Paro and Explore the Valley
Kuzuzangpola and welcome to Bhutan. Upon arrival at Paro International Airport (2262m), look for your friendly Like Bhutan Travels representative, holding a placard with your name, ready to guide you on your journey. We will then hop into our comfortable vehicle and drive to your pre-trek hotel.
- Following lunch, explore Ta Dzong, a former 17th-century watchtower that protected Rinpung Dzong during inter-valley conflicts. Transformed into Bhutan's National Museum in 1968, it now houses a remarkable collection of antique thangka paintings, textiles, weaponry, and historical artifacts.
- A short walk downhill leads to Rinpung Dzong, the Fortress of the Heap of Jewels. Discover its captivating history and admire the intricate wall paintings depicting Buddhist lore, including scenes from the life of Milarepa.
- Following the visit to the Dzong, we'll walk down to one of Bhutan's oldest cantilever bridges, cross it, and be picked up by our vehicle on the other side.
Day 2
Acclimatization Hike to Taktsang Monastery
Prior to our 5-day trek, we'll undertake an acclimatization hike to Tiger's Nest. This revered Buddhist site, perched dramatically on a cliff at approximately 3100 m (10,000 ft), was built in 1692 and holds immense spiritual importance for the Bhutanese. The name ‘Tiger’s Nest’ originates from the legend of Guru Rinpoche, who is said to have arrived here on a tigress in the 8th century and meditated within its caves.
After your descent, Prepare for the thrill! This evening, your trekking guide will deliver an essential pre-trek briefing, setting the stage for an unforgettable, adventure-packed expedition.
Day 3
Paro to Jele Dzong (Trek starts)
Distance: 8 Kms | Walking Time: 5 Hours
Today marks the start of our much-anticipated trek. We'll embark on a gradual ascent to Jele Dzong, with the trail offering panoramic views of Paro valley and the surrounding snow-capped mountains. Our destination is a campsite near the historic Jelela Dzong, nestled beneath the Jele-La Pass (3,540m), where we'll rest for the night.
Overnight: Camp at Jele Dzong (3,450 Meters)
Day 4
Jele Dzong - Jangchulakha (Trek day 2)
Distance: 10 Kms | Walking Time: 3-4 Hours
Day two takes us on a captivating journey, beginning with a steady climb and then descending through a mystical landscape of thick alpine forests, alive with the colors of rhododendrons. The air may carry the sounds of yak bells and the calls of elusive monal pheasants, while our eyes feast on the majestic Jumolhari and surrounding peaks.
- We'll ascend to Jangchulakha (3780m), a remote yak pasture with sweeping Himalayan vistas, and camp under the vast, star-studded sky.
- Overnight: Campsite at Jangchulakha, Tshokham (3,780 Meters)
Day 5
Jangchulakha to Jimilangtsho Lake (Trek day 3)
Distance: 11 Kms | Walking Time: 5- 6 Hours
Our third day's trek is a demanding yet rewarding experience. The trail traces the ridge, showcasing sensational mountain and valley views in clear weather.
- We'll tackle numerous climbs and descents, conquering the main ridge before descending into the valley, steadily heading towards Thimphu.
- A challenging descent brings us to the picturesque Jimilangtsho lake (3,880m), famed for its sizable trout population and situated adjacent to our campsite.
- We'll settle for the night beside this serene lake, with the possibility of observing majestic yaks cooling down in its refreshing waters.
- Overnight: Campsite at Jimilangtsho Lake (3,880 Meters).
Day 6
Jimilangtsho Lake to Simkotra (Trek day 4)
Distance: 11 Kms | Walking Time: 6 Hours
Our fourth day unfolds with a walk along the lake's edge, leading us to its western extremity. From there, we climb through a natural tapestry of bushes, revealing ever-widening vistas.
- We'll discover numerous hidden lakes along our route, and traverse a wide stone path amidst blooming rhododendrons.
- A final ridge ascent grants us our first glimpse of Simkotra Tsho, our idyllic campsite for the night.
- Overnight: Campsite at Simkota Tsho Lake (4,110 Meters)
Day 7
Simkotra via Phajoding to Thimphu City (Trek day 5)
Distance: 14-15 Kms | Walking Time: 7-8 Hours
The last leg of our journey leads us to Phume La Pass (4210m), our trek's crowning point. Here, a panorama unfolds: the majestic Mt. Gangkar Puensum (7570m), a sentinel of Bhutan and the world, its unclimbed summit reaching for the heavens.
- The trail descends through a tapestry of juniper and rhododendron, culminating in a breathtaking view of Phajoding Monastery and the sprawling Thimphu city.
- From Phajoding, we follow a leisurely downhill path through blue pine forests, arriving in Thimphu by evening.
- We'll bid farewell to our dedicated trekking team before a drive to our hotel, passing the Royal Takin Preserve, home to Bhutan's national animal.

Day 8
Thimphu Sightseeing
Get ready to discover the Thimphu Valley after a satisfying breakfast.
- Our journey takes us to the magnificent Buddha Dordenma, a colossal 169-foot statue. Prepare to be moved by the profound tranquility emanating from this golden icon, one of the largest Buddha statues on Earth.
- As the day continues, awaken your senses at Simply Bhutan Museum. This living museum offers an authentic, hands-on experience, where you can not only witness but also participate in the rich traditions and diverse heritage of Bhutan. Plus, capture the moment with a traditional photo session.
- After lunch Visit the Jungshi Hand-Made Paper Factory in Thimphu to witness the unique art of 'Deh-sho' production, where you'll learn how traditional Bhutanese paper is made from the bark of the Daphne tree using ancient technique in this modern world.
- Step into the heart of Bhutanese artistry at the Craft Bazaar towards evening, a vibrant hub where you can immerse yourself in local culture and discover exquisite, Bhutan-made crafts. This unique market, featuring approximately 80 charming bamboo huts lining Norzin Lam, offers a truly authentic shopping experience.
- Savor the Flavors of Local Life at the Bustling Farmers Vegetable Market: Engage with the vibrant pulse of Thimphu, where farmers proudly display their organic treasures. Taste the sweetness of local honey, the earthy richness of mushrooms, and the genuine warmth of Bhutanese hospitality.
- The evening is free for you to explore Thimphu independently.

Day 9
Punakha Awaits: Dzongs, Bridges, and Ancient Blessings
Today, we journey from the bustling heart of Thimphu to the tranquil sanctuary of Punakha (74Kms/2hours). Our ascent to Dochula Pass (3,088m) is a feast for the senses, with panoramic Himalayan views, vibrant prayer flags, and the aroma of steaming coffee. If the skies are clear, prepare to be awestruck by the towering Himalayan peaks. While in punakha visit,
- Chimi Lhakhang: The Temple of Fertility: Experience the unique charm of Chimi Lhakhang, a 15th-century temple with a fascinating history, known as a sacred pilgrimage site for those seeking blessings of fertility.
- Punakha Dzong: A River Confluence Marvel: Witness the grandeur of Punakha Dzong, a 17th-century masterpiece strategically placed at the junction of the Pho Chu and Mo Chu rivers, a symbol of Bhutan's religious and administrative heritage.
- Dusk descends, and the Pho Chhu Suspension Bridge calls. Cross Bhutan's longest span, a 228-meter thrill ride with views that will steal your breath away.
Day 10
Punakha to Paro: Valley to Peak
After breakfast, we embark on a thrilling quest to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten! A challenging yet rewarding hike begins through emerald rice fields along the Mo Chhu's banks, leading us to the Chorten's majestic perch. Prepare to be awestruck by the spectacular panorama from this hilltop sanctuary, a masterpiece of traditional architecture built to conquer negative forces and bring peace to all beings. This one-hour, moderately strenuous ascent is a true adventurer's triumph!
- Then embark on a scenic 3–4-hour drive back to Paro, descending from Dochula Pass and tracing the dramatic river valleys.
- On the way we will stop briefly at the Royal Botanical gardens at Lampelri.
- While in paro, wander through the charming streets of Paro, immersing yourself in the vibrant tapestry of local life.
- Experience the warmth of a traditional hot stone bath to melt away any lingering weariness, a gentle reward for your spirit.
- Tonight, we share a final, special dinner at a home-stay, creating lasting memories with your guide and driver, who have journeyed beside you, not just as guides, but as friends.
Day 11
The Last Horizon - Bhutan to Home
As you prepare for your journey home, take these last few hours to soak in the mountain air.
